Turkey – Rift Slide – approx M 9.0 – Feb 2023 Observations from 01 Mar – 15 Mar 2023

0000am 01 Mar 2023 Southern Mozambique – Tropical lightening storms are cool from a safe distance.

0005am 01 Mar 2023 New Zealand? Windy in a day or two? How’s the recovery from the Hurricane going?

0005am 01 Mar 2023 In Darwin, it’s called The Wet. Well, economically it doesn’t mean squit, and that’s why no one fxxking lives there, mate. Quote from an Australian “No one goes to Darwin.” Look at Vanuatu? Please? Solomons?

0015am 01 Mar 2023 Vanuatu Capital – Port Vila – 52 kts gusting 79kts or 146.308 km per hour Vanuatu Standard Time Time zone in Port Vila, Vanuatu (GMT+11) Wednesday, 1 March 2023, 11:21 am It’s a school day? Can you ask Google to put am/pm in their time zone info, some people don’t know it’s morning, I added the “am”. How did you know, Colman? Well, it’s dark here. That’s the other side of the world.

Port Vila (wiki) (FrenchPort-Vila), or simply Vila (English: /ˈviːlə/FrenchVilaBislamaVila [viˈla]), is the capital and largest city of Vanuatu. It is located on the island of Efate. Its population in the last census (2009) was 44,040,[1] an increase of 35% on the previous census result (29,356 in 1999). In 2009, the population of Port Vila formed 18.8% of the country’s population, and 66.9% of the population of Efate.

0315am 01 Mar 2023 Surfline.com https://www.surfline.com/surf-news/outlook-tropical-activity-near-fiji/173381 Tropical Cyclone Judy is now spinning away between Fiji and Vanuatu. “It’s in an area of 30-degrees-C-plus sea surface temperatures, so expect this thing to ramp up its intensity. It’s current a category 1 strength storm, and should be category 2 or maybe 3 by the time it’s moved south, to the southern extent of Vanuatu’s islands on Wednesday.” Hugh McDowell 27th, Feb 2023. Updated 2 days ago. The forecast map here if you play the video, is a little off, as in the video it misses Efate? It does show the weather moving onto Northern Territories, though, that’s not it disappearing, it’s just his interest is in the Surf on the beaches.
Only premium users get access to the beach cams and the site sees my location and advertises for Lahinch. Nice wave heights though. Bit rough for canoeing at this hour. Last time I was there with UCCCC, some gobshite wanted to go swimming with tide full in at 0200am and swells this strong. And I was the mad one. I just said that’s dangerous and went back to the hostel for a sleep. And no, they didn’t want me around because I told the gobshite climbing over the three story hostel roof to get off the roof and various other stuff a sensible adult might say. And to an unnamed person, I’d describe it as like herding cats, (It’s a Sandman reference) and yes, babysitting is a good phrase, though the kids I used to babysit, had a lot more sense at 12 years old than those gobshites at 21 years old. And then UCCCC said he was sexually harassing someone and it took six months for the local numpty to hear the case and Colman wrote 43 pages on various activities he’d noticed. Oh and Colman didn’t mention the swimming lark, because strictly speaking he was only blathering. Oh and Colman still doesn’t know anything about what he was accused of because: All he was shown was an email which said “UCCCC is making a complaint of sexual harrassment against Colman. I also sent over a copy to the UCC Garda liaison officer through my local garda station. I was retired, and quite happy being a nice cautious retiree. And hanging around UCC, after the drug related observances in the document, might not have been good for Colman’s health, again, and “… just like that, my running days was over.” or “I went home.” though personally from Forrest Gump, I like “And I cut their grass for free.”

0350am 01 Mar 2023 Now back to Fiji, in Lebanon I met some Fijians, I was an observer on one of their exercises. Nice people. Fiji and Ireland are rather alike. We wouldn’t work for the British either. Fiji got Indians there to work the plantations and Ireland got Scots Protestants. Neither plantation has been particularly successful and the Fijians made a military dictatorship and we recently caught a very large drug dealer from Northern Ireland and I’m quite pleased about that, however the Fijians might consider being a little more tourist friendly. And this they don’t look like us business or they drink and do drugs business is rather annoying when someone is selling the drugs and then saying… “And that’s all I have to say about that.”, “Would you like a chocolate?” (Eh, the chocolate quote happens first in the movie Forrest Gump (1984).), and what was at the beginning of the article Colman O’Keeffe World Climate and Events 0350am 01 Mar 2023?

0500am 01 Mar 2023 Colman that’s silly. Yes, and the local armed Garda Unit has been through my house and I gave them some pointers after their last visit. Hello to all the Gunslingers! Because Colman knows where all the safety equipment is and tries to avoid using it. Prevention is better than cure. I had a quote for that on my wall somewhere? “An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure?” Colman I don’t know that quote. No, I didn’t hear it or see it anywhere either. I seem to have made that one up myself. Perhaps the nice mathematician might put it in a revised version of his book on quotations. He was kind enough to sign my copy of his first edition hardback. Colman

0600am-0720am 01 Mar 2023 Who was your favourite shooting instructor, well, my dad was quite good, I got a shotgun lesson or two him, and the 23 Inf Bn (FCA) (Cork county) NCOs and the Garda firearms instructor who used to teach at Rockhill were excellent, though my favourite was the .303 instruction I got in B Company 28 Inf Bn for the Military Pentathlon competition, at 200 meters in practice, I could zero Five rounds in a circle the size of an Irish two pence, that was one of the brown coins before euros. The Garda weapons are quite good. And why does the officer carry a pistol? Well, an American would say in the words of the Sgt Major from “We were soldiers once and young.” (book_wiki) (Movie_2002) “If I need a rifle, there’ll be lots of them lying around.” (Movie quote). Overseas in Lebanon as a Lt, I used to carry a pistol and two spare magazines of rifle ammunition and no rifle. It’s nice if my radioman has more, he would be carrying the radio and it’s nice if the hq wallahs bring ammn with them when they’re going on a recce, they’re probably there because the people nearby have been firing some of theirs. Colman, you made no mention of the Cadet school shooting instructors. Yes, I hear they’re much better now. Colman. Actually he fired marksman in the Cadet school. Yes, I did, and yes, they were excellent, not my favourites though, my instructor list is quite long. And it’s three years in a row to get the badge and it’s nice if you practice, before you fire your range practices, I was busy. In 24 Inf Bn (RDF), I got to use the air rifle every now and again for a little practice. Carrying two spare magazines wasn’t standard issue. No, other people used to have a compass and their tac-aides in theirs. Surprise. Oh, and the AK47 and HUMVEE (wiki) instruction from the nice Moroccan NCO in Congo was quite nice too. And the repeating shotgun with solid shot and the RK 62, the Finlander’s use are quite cool too. Question? do they give marksman badges for Pepper spray? Did you know that an An-124 could land in Goma? The interior is quite pretty, as is that of the IL-76 and C-130, they were the cargo aircraft from Kinshasa to Goma and Kisangani and on to Kalemi and Manono, the canvas seats are quite similar and comfortable, though the cheer from the three crew in the IL-76, through the cloth sliding divider, on landing, was a little off putting for some. Others would call the interiors utilitarian, though I particularly liked the Russian ones as aesthetically similar to the French Pompidou Center, all the pipes and cables visible. Yes, and I am the average retired officer. And the DF get pay raises, no. Promotions? Oh, maybe we can let them be acting rank paid? No. Nice office? Desk job? Did you know that in some organisations the managers get less than the talent? Who manages the Defence Forces? Oh, those desk wallahs? Here’s looking at you says “The Department of …” Oh, we have to answer questions in public. Really. 11 years retired as a single officer at his rate of overseas service six months every eighteen months that would have been … seven missions. Illness not caused by DF Service. (Oh, we only give that money out when you sue us. Oh, here bring these files to the High court, have you seen these Larium cases, have you seen these Larium cases, have you seen these Larum cases?) As stated by the Department psychologist (Well, I’d never seen her before and I’d been through Bricin’s and had coffee there.), with a Polish doctor feigning sadness, boohoo, oh, he looked, and he kept looking at me flicking my watch like he was a lamped rabbit. Yes, I did, like a little lamped rabbit. “Can I have a look at that, please?” Colman

0800am 01 Mar 2023 And I think the family debt to the McCarthy’s was made null and void when one brought a lovely African made joint rolling machine into my home. Well, you could roll a tobacco cigarette on it. Really? Exactly. So, here’s looking at you kid (Youtube) Casablanca (1942). My thanks to the last Chief of Staff, the GOC 1S Bde and the Lord Mayor of Cork for allowing me take their photograph and, yes, I am happy on my pension and occasionally, I write a little note, for the education of the Junior officer. And, no, I won’t be suing, someone else might see it as an opportunity for profit.

0800am 01 Mar 2023 And these are the sorts of stories I normally tell people who chat to me. Nice having been a few places isn’t it. 47 countries so far, though I have to keep checking. Some weren’t countries then, and it’s so hard to keep count after a while. The World Map keeps changing. And yes, I Scare Myself Sometimes. (The Smith Street Band, Lucy Wilson (2015) Spotify) Colman

0300am 02 Mar 2023 https://earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/earthquakes/home.html “Dr Who” refers to Time as a ribbon, the end of the ribbon (or flag) was Turkey, big shake, now the ribbon end, here starts to move. Yes, the British were watching and yes, they got their ducks in a row a little faster than Ireland and why is Ireland empty? No calibrated seismometers capable of giving reliable readings. AND WE (IRL) LOOK LIKE ??? Empty heads. It’s a PDF reference. Yes, I liked working with smart Donegal soldiers. When the place is poor, the best apply and get top of the list.

0320am 02 Mar 2023 Steve’s interview on RTE, I worked with Steve in 28 Inf Bn, in person I would call him Sir, the interview looked rushed, this was his drivers fault, this was a break from the real work and his driver should have used the opportunity to keep the boss hydrated, he should have been given a cup of tea out of a flask and it would have looked like a fireside chat by Franklin D Roosevelt. (President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered his first fireside chat, on the Emergency Banking Act, eight days after taking office (March 12, 1933).) Why? Because this is normal for us. And they might have offered the reporter a nice cuppa too. His Sgt Major might have a word with his driver for next time? I think I have a photo somewhere of my briefing a nice man who visited my post in Lebanon in Robert Fisk’s place, afterwards I realised that the first thing I should have done was to ask him if he needed a bathroom and would he like a cuppa. On conducted tours of areas, often the liaison, forgets the niceties, like the fact the reporter has human requirements too.

0340am 02 Mar 2023 Windy.com Ever seen A Perfect Storm (movie_2000)? You see afterward, it was realised that deaths might have been avoided if everyone had better weather information. “Yes, it is rather unusual.” “Unusual? You go fishing in that? that crab’s worth every fxxking shiny cent, mate.” Any crab fishermen out there with webcams, there was a tv-show about crab fishermen from Newfoundland? Any mid Atlantic cargo threading between the top and bottom storms? Colman

0400am 02 Mar 2023 No while this site was built for looking at USA Wildfires, it takes the Sat data and outputs the world map. I particularly liked the Busby fire listed near New Orleans, silly numpties. Why all the fires in Africa. There’s more Africans, the population continues to increase. People want food and cut forestry for planting. Lack of education says, firewood, not a problem, we’ll use coal. And the world burns. Why are there areas without fires? Oh, there’s no trees there, either they’re not there, desert, or they’ve been cut down already, cattle farming, or in some cases, they’re preserved national parks, and there’s only little fires. How do you slow the process? Increasing the productivity of the lands already farmed through education is one possible solution. What happened in Europe and the Far East when this happened? WW1 and WW2 actually. Oh, we need more resources, have to look elsewhere. Why is the Southern area relatively fire free? AIDS actually, their populations declined and are still recovering, and the trees there are sparse, it’s mostly desert and wet grassland like the steppe in Russia with rain, because of the ocean proximity, wildebeest roaming and such. An Overview of African Wetlands Aquadocs.org This is an amazing paper and beautifully readable, consider for Leaving Cert Geography? As an example of good penmanship? Please keep an eye on the document as an improving resource, there’s a nice reading list, just started.

0440am-0510am 02 Mar 2023 Iceland Met Office Now, strangely I was a little concerned when I saw the icon in the top right as completely blue, until I found it meant ZERO warnings. Now, why was I looking, well, if the UK is three quarters down the ribbon, then Iceland is at the very end of the ribbon and Turkey to UK 3000km took 06 Feb to approx 26 Feb, and Turkey to Iceland is 4000km so 26-6=20days and one third is 7 days, 26 Feb + 7 days = 05 Mar, so I’d be warning tomorrow and looking at effects (possible earthquakes and volcanic effects) in about two or three days? And I wouldn’t want to alarm anyone, however the end of the ribbon moves rather strangely depending on it’s velocity and density, the difference between a ribbon and the end of a whip cracking are quite different. So you might look at previous large events and results? Skopje earthquake 1963? Distance Skopje Iceland 3100km Effects in Iceland about 21 days after the Skopje event? July 26, 1963 – so I’d look in the records for 16 Jul – 15 Aug 1963? Surtsey, volcanic island, emerged in 1963 (EarthSky.org) on November 30, 1963. Anyone want to watch? I’d be getting a few webcams ready? And a rather large evacuation plan? And Yes, I am completely unqualified to make judgements on this event. And I sent a little message to Dublin written to Collins bks and by phone to An Garda Siochana. And airline transport was effected by the last large event in Iceland. Google “On 16 April 2010, 16,000 of Europe’s usual 28,000 daily scheduled passenger flights were cancelled and on the following day 16,000 of the usual 22,000 flights were cancelled. By 21 April 95,000 flights had been cancelled.” Webcam on Surtsey, Iceland: View over Surtsey (webcamgalore.com) If you go to the little map at the bottom of the webcam site, there’s a larger map available, zoom out, to see all cameras, the site has over a hundred for Iceland and the sites camera listings, are by country and then alphabetical, so the map is the best option.

0620am 02 Mar 2023 Now if the edge of the plate at Iceland is at 4000km from Turkey? At approx 06 Mar 2023, then Azores is another 1,700 km further and is at 1.7 x 6 days = 10 days later at 16 Mar 2023? It’s the junction of three plates. “During these times Ponta Delgada became the capital. The first capital was Vila Franca do Campo, but when it was destroyed in a massive landslide caused by a powerful earthquake in 1522, Ponta Delgada assumed the position. It became the first city on the island in 1546.” History of the Azores (wiki) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_historical_earthquakes#11th%E2%80%9317th_centuries “The 1509 Constantinople earthquake or historically Kıyamet-i Sugra (‘Minor Judgment Day’) occurred in the Sea of Marmara on 10 September 1509 at about 10 p.m. The earthquake had an estimated magnitude of 7.2 ± 0.3 on the surface wave magnitude scale.[2] A tsunami and forty-five days of aftershocks followed the earthquake. The death toll of this earthquake is poorly known, with estimates in the range of 1,000 to 13,000.”

0415am 03 Mar 2023 The Gigantic Turnip Story | Stories for Teenagers (YouTube) | @EnglishFairyTales I recently air dried some turnips, I left them in my vegetable basket for, what others would consider too long, and they dried out, they look awful dried, however the soup I made last night, they were delicious. NASA? Since radishes have been a successful crop on the ISS, you might consider a larger crop? For some reason, if I leave carrots the same way, the carrots catch mould, is this because of the higher water and sugar content in carrots, they having been overselected (genetically) for appearance on supermarket shelves? Strangely, the opposite is true for apples? The difference I presume being the “apparent” time from harvesting to shop shelf, apple crops being distributed over a longer availability from one harvest time and carrots being a popular vegetable and grown in green houses throughout the entire year. Question: “Does the apple blossom appear because the bees are active or are the bees active because the apple blossom appears?” Ask a botanist? Colman

0430am 03 Mar 2023 Ultraviolet light is more penetrating than visible light and infra red light as are some other radiations from the sun. Why do the trees begin their growing season? The temperature of the ground? The water in the ground? The minerals in the ground? The temperature of the air surrounding them? The composition of the air surrounding them? The radiation from the Sun? “Why do potatoes? Let’s watch a clip from the Martian (movie_2015)” “Larger seeds can be planted deeper in the ground. Smaller seeds require being close to the surface.” Discuss? (No, that’s a question for Hons English Leaving Cert, “Let the autobots stew.”) Colman (“Well, I undErstand some of thE references, though nOt why they’re used in thIs cOntext?”)

0450am 03 Mar 2023 Well this is a first for me. Seeing a report of a Magnitude ZEROpointONE (0.1) earthquake in Cornwall. Did someone drop a hammer down a mineshaft? For giggles, can someone calculate the energy imparted by a Four pound (4 lb) lump hammer dropped 7km down a mine shaft? (Eh, do I have to use the changes in gravity from surface to 7km depth? And the various atmospheric composition and pressure changes too, thank you.) Colman “Listed in Red colour as in ‘within the last 48 hrs’ “? https://earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/earthquakes/home.html

0510am-0540am 03 Mar 2023 Geofon https://geofon.gfz-potsdam.de/ Now I was looking for a definition of Nodal planes Strike, Dip, Rake, however I found this beautifully composed piece of work. http://www.geo.uu.nl/~paulssen/ISS/iss11-2020.pdf I like the beachball comparison. Very nice. Why? Because beachballs are light, plastic, and if you flick it with one finger, the ball moves quite easily. (It’s a reference to the differences when the ball is held by a person’s hands. Slides occur when the ball is flicked at right angles to the hands (fingers) holding the ball ►Δ◄ The Delta (centre) here, being the change in force imparted by the flicking of the finger, the black arrows, being the fingers holding the ball, in a slide, the fingers represent the local static friction between the plates. Why are these black? Oh, because that’s where the damage happens afterwards. As with normal mechanics of motion, once static friction is overcome, dynamic friction is lower. Basic Geophysics: Fault Plane Solutions (YouTube) I read a few USGS earthquake diagrams a few years ago. Colman

0900am 03 Mar 2023 And this is Hurricane Kevin, say hello Kevin? Now in Cork, we give our normal dangerous weather phenomena names like “The Beast from the East.” Signifying that left ignored, it’ll kill you. And you lot put nice people’s names on them, so people can’t say Oh, Kevin killed how many people? Strange, my brother left a book at my house once, it was called “We need to talk about Kevin.“, never read it, not a horror fan. So instead I’m talking about Hurricane Kevin’s present visit near Vanuatu.

0400am 04 Mar 2023 https://www.emsc-csem.org/Earthquake/europe/ Is that a normal picture? Yes. Define normal? That’s what it normally looks like after a large event. In weather terms is this normal? Well, Climate is defined as an average over a period of 30 years and this would be considered a period of rough weather?

0535am 04 Mar 2023 Accuweather Storms continued to menace the South and Ohio Valley with flooding rain on Friday, and forecasters also warned of damaging winds that could threaten millions. Elsewhere, parts of the Midwest and Northeast were gearing up for rounds of heavy snow. Updated Mar. 3, 2023 11:48 PM EST https://www.ventusky.com/?p=42.13;-73.60;6&l=rain-3h This is quite good, however I can’t figure the depth of snow? It says 50 cm in albany? 2245pm 04 Mar 2023 Turkey, yes, a little noisy. You might ask if anyone needs a rest from the noise? Little kids sometimes sleep better in cars, rubber tyres insulate them from the seismic vibrations. Different sized bones vibrate harmonically with different frequencies.

2355pm 04 Mar 2023 Small little bit of respect for the talent? Some advice for a neighbour? If this is a computer data and geology job, £35-40,000(after a year) with 6 (conference and plamasing) flights a year, business class(£15,000), 6 weeks holidays and the phone numbers of all the top UK geologists? For that, I might know a woman suitable, in fact, I might know a few people suitable, and they’re all under thirty years of age. They can do a geology diploma/degree by night for the first six months. It’s “only” an observations team? Well, they’ll have to know the system from the ground up. You see, I recognise that font and the little picture in your website.

0005am 05 Mar 2023 Ireland – Who wrote that? Promote them and let them choose their own 2i/c and two more understudies? No, doing the same job, only better. £35-40,000 (after a year) with 6 (conference and plamasing) flights a year, business class(£15,000), 6 weeks holidays and the phone numbers of all the top Irish geologists? No, that’s the starting pay for the new 2i/c. Yes, that’s pensionable. And yes, we may sideline making nice infographics and interprographics for the Universities and RTE with the data available.

1300pm 05 Mar 2023 Silly question, going back to my Atlantis hypothesis, where would the ice line have been? Where ice forms on the Black sea at about 3,000-5,000 BC as some traders like to overwinter in relatively safe climates? And proximity to water brings a certain stability in temperature as seen here in modern times.

2300pm 05 Mar 2023 Iceland M 3.4 Depth 4 km
2023-03-05 18:00:38.0 UTC 65.21 N ; 16.32 W The Green is over (Magnitude) M 3.0. To do this in html, you place the star symbol at a position where the point of the bottom left of the inserted text is below and to the left of the centre of the earthquake and thus falls on the position of the lat long, you wish to mark. If you note below, the hex’s have lines top and bottom, this is as Iceland’s regular quake distributions are on a N/S axis and thus if two quakes appear close together the second is more apparent. The timing is also given by changing the colour of the quake symbols, also making them more visible, the brighter colours being the more recent quakes. While the ability to zoom to each quake would be possible from selecting the lollipop stick in the lower time chart, not visible here, this makes the chart more fiddly and reduces efficiency by promoting time wasting checking each quake, thus the simplified system of placing the green for quakes over M 3.0. Now how will you know that there are more than one M 3.0 in the same place? Well, the eacy way to judge that is the fxxking klaxons will be sounding and … What? See the number of Earthquakes over M 3.0 for the last two weeks, ESCM, https://www.emsc-csem.org/Earthquake/significant_earthquakes.php You change the settings to two weeks, Iceland’s rocks are very soft and the sound doesn’t travel as far as ESCM seismometers, so most aren’t counted on their data sets. It’s a worst case scenario system. Internet out, data systems compromised etc. In the case of this earthquake and my knowledge of map offsets and gps co-ordinates and accuracy of triangulation at distance in a spherical system, etc, I’d be asking if this quake was directly under that mapped vent feature and if there’s any vented steam showing above the vent? The Sat photo shows snow on top and it is winter, so any activity will be cooled rapidly. Copernicus? A wee peek, it’s night time and cold? Steam rising shows nicely on Infra red? The temperature change probably wouldn’t show on NASA FIRMS unless there was lava above ground level. Why look now? Well steam moves faster than lava and at 50m/hour and 4km depth 80 hours or 200m/hr and 4km depth 20 hours and steam moves much faster and lets you know IIIFFF a fissure has opened?

0030am-0130am 06 Mar 2023 Tania Desloge and Netanya Schiff Fighting Fit Fighting Fit: conservation of a Japanese samurai armour at the British Museum, While the beautifully drilled holes in the metal plates reduced the weight of the individual pieces, you might note the uneven size of the holes, this is not due to differences in availability of drill pieces, it is due to the requirements for protection at these places. The distribution of the metal plates, being at places where blows might be aimed, here seen the abdomen region, slicing cuts here rather than thrusts mean protection from lateral blows and allowing the armour to bend with the users natural motion. the more armoured edge seen here, is because of the inclination of the attacker to thrust with point at the boundary of the armour hoping for a cut at the intersection, while the adjoining piece is not shown, the presumption being that similar boundary metals are in the adjoining armour and the gaps are where the metal buckles for the leather straps would afford protection at these points. Assuming the examination of the armour of the dead and the armour of the living after the battle, is it possible to chart the changes in weaponry and hand fighting techniques of the armies of the Japanese from the armour types available for study, presuming that the oldest pieces are carbon dated, additions to the armour in new and varying styles of protection, even with coherent aesthetic styles, in display of wealth and familial connection, colours, lacquers, materials might guide the student (Yes, all professors call themselves students, every day is a learning day.) to which parts were successfully designed from the beginnings of the armours evolution to it’s retirement due to it’s going either out of fashion or out of suitability for the changes in weapons available. The current fashion for body armour becoming more prevalent in warfare, due to the ability of carbon fibre to absorb lead bullets, might point the researcher to the vulnerabilities of the human body, which must be better protected, found by the Japanese armour manufacturers over hundreds of years, thus reducing research and design hours in the modern day. A point which is immediately obvious, is the camouflage of the especially armoured points with the overall scheme of timber and leather, thus reducing the knowledge of the attacker as to where the most armoured points in the suit actually were. Placing your big plate on the front of the flak vest in a visible pocket, might not be the best course of action? While it eases the ability to insert the extra armour when the ability to carry it is available, it’s visibility, does sort of negate it’s protection? Case in point, one armoured mercedes car in a row of mercedes cars is invisible. No, they don’t hang lower on the ground, the suspension and wheel pressures etc are designed for invisibility. If you want the protection to look like a tank, you have a? An Armoured HUMVEE or similar. For Armoured Vehicles all shape and sizes ArmouredCars.com Not an ad, an example. 0345am 06 Mar 2023 NASA Firms, and it is a beautiful vehicle and thank you for leaving out the car key’s mom, I’m trying to drive carefully. Here’s the Icelandic lake over the dropped lava stopper, showing beautifully dark, with it’s lovely warm water, higher to the right there is some unusual extra heat, shown as the fuzziness in the cloud tops, the irradiated heat is making the air above the clouds look like steamy bits. Check the local wind direction for confirmations? to the NW? Why new heat? Well, stable systems, like the ripples seen elsewhere, most of Iceland is relatively warm rock, tend to remain stable and new additions look steamy and fluffy until stability is achieved, new ripples are formed. Note: My screen resolution is better than that captured on the screenshot.

I checked the weather approx 10 kt wind close to due South? if the heat rising is at the boundary of the clouds at 12 km down wind, that would put the cloud height on the Sat photo at about 7,000-12,000 meters or FL 200 -250 or 20,000 ft -25,000 ft ? Yes, that is a question? The lake appears as an grey oval with a little line under it to the North of the inverted V. The heat rising at an angle of approx 45 degrees to the vertical?

1600pm 10 Mar 2023 Silly question. Cork city centre is going to be under about 5 meters of water in 50 years. Which buildings do you want to save? Now, personally I’d pick the Woolshed, it’s a beautifully preserved example of a limestone warehouse which brought economic wealth to the city. To be honest the rest of the city centre is a bit of an architectural mess and while others might consider churches or pubs for sentimental reasons, I’m not particularly bothered by the loss of these, the ones in Cork city centre aren’t particularly good examples. And how would you preserve the economic life of the city centre? Well, I hate to use a Lebanese example, knock it all, build it up five meters and start again. Full architectural designs with allocation of sites and buildings as per current square meterage. It was how they rebuilt Beirut after their 1980s civil war.

Nice place, Rotorua, though the smell of sulphur, takes some getting used to. You could zip the legs onto the shorts. It’s nice when, at the top there were icicles frozen horizontally to the wooden stakes with string for guidance in the fog, the icicles were about 3 inches long. And my sister in law was going to wear sandals. No, runners would be best. I particularly liked the ecofriendly toilet on the hiking path half way up. We could learn a lot from the tourist friendly bus route around the base too.

0830am 11 Mar 2023 Iceland, now there’s a Frood who really knows where their towel’s at. By using past data and seeing how the information might be distributed by geographic location and size of quakes, the full picture of the many small earthquakes is easily understood. I’d be asking if anyone in Donegal has headaches or nervous anxiety at this point and suggesting lifting their feet off the ground and maybe a nice bath if it persists. Why? Well, it’s only 1,100 km from Iceland to Donegal and seismic waves are a little louder than sound waves and they travel through the rocks in the sea bed. Why are there two stars on the screen? Oh, I’d ask a policeperson. No alerts in effect? Well, they don’t know what the fxxk is happening. It’s the edge of the plate vibrating, this is the ripple from Turkey arriving, just on time according to my calculations. SAVE ONE – knowledge of the cause of the effect and knowing it isn’t actually threatening means the body calms and just gets used to it, it’s the same as me sleeping with a diesel generator beside the room in Lebanon for six months, I only woke up when the generator stopped. Tonight would be an excellent night to go discoing in Donegal though, the ladies would be on the dance floor shaking their stuff. 1045am 11 Mar 2023 You see, if all the gobshites are after you and you have this sort of response times to interactions from certain people then you think that it’s the certain people doing stuff and you get a DF soldier in the Special Criminal court because they weren’t smart enough to realise that there are all sorts of people in the world and the nice ones play fair. And sabotaging some of my html here is slightly annoying. You might ask the company what effect they really want, because “ID” = “Colman” doesn’t particularly like being messed with. Some people are so literal. I wonder when they were in my back yard? It helps to tie down who did what if you only tell a story to one person or place at a time. I just hope the plants are still growing, the world needs more plants growing.

1120am 11 Mar 2023 http://terremoti.ingv.it/ It might help to have a button to zoom directly to the Italian portion of the map? Also, the individual earthquakes, having the other earthquakes from the last two weeks in the individual map zones might be nice too, the medium resolution maps are excellent for planning purposes. I know you copied the display functionality from USGS and others, however I don’t particularly like their systems either. 1900pm 11 Mar 2023 See this is what I’m taking about, a CosPlayer I follow in the USA was out doing a photoshoot today and had a flash flood pass by in the stream bed nearby which was up to a level where it was bursting it’s banks at or above it’s maximum full flood level. Apologies for the poor quality of the picture, that’s due to the speed of the river, 20 to 25 knots or 25-30 miles per hour? Oh, a stream, it was, a river today.

2000pm 11 Mar 2023 Lava flowing Iceland? Either that or lot’s of small earthquakes Mid Atlantic ridge? Can you check please? I have a pain in my head, front upper sinus cavity and top centre of back of head, like there’s a high pressure water main broken and flowing nearby? The pain is relieved when I lift my feet off the ground for a small while. It was so bad in the afternoon that I went for a lie down for a couple of hours. How do you know that? Well, the last time, I could also hear the water flowing and I went down the hill and looked and the council were repairing it.

2020pm 11 Mar 2023 From earlier today, Iceland a little frost on the hills by Satellite from Iceland. (MODIS/Terra Corrected Reflectance (true color) ) And sometimes I just look. Earth is quite a beautiful place. Colman

2030pm 11 Mar 2023 While it was a little cloudy here in Cork, Northern Ireland had a clear crispy day with frost and the areas around Lough Neagh and Lough Erne, remaining frost free due to the body of water, some lovely scattered cloud formations visible too, some of the cloud formations are due to smoke particles condensing moisture out of the quite dry cold air. At higher altitudes in Ireland where this is cold dry air is normal, 15,000 to 30,000 feet, this effect causes plane contrails. The puff, puff shapes like choo choo steam train smoke stacks is caused by chimney designs, the wind blowing over the tops of the chimneys has an effect similar to blowing gently over the top of a small calibre shell casing which vibrates the air inside and makes a whistling noise. Pan pipes are the same.

0040am 12 Mar 2023 Iceland FIRMS 1. Why is there a fire showing? To show you that we’re making sure the fxxking thing is working. 2. Why does the island look so thin, because it’s viewed at a very acute angle, it actually means, there is a small danger of losing vision of stuff behind a hill? The pairing is of the Geosynchronous with the overheads, which don’t pass over as often as we’d like and these systems were originally designed for detecting rocket launches passing through the cloud cover and this land coverage stuff was a nice bonus feature. I’d ask Copernicus for some water temperature photos? Why? Well, most volcano anomaly detection is due to radar detected changes in height of the land surface due to lava bulges. This only works if there’s a pressure build up due to the stuff not getting to the surface. Unfortunately the puncture wounds are there already for a couple of places, and the winter contraction has left nice fissures, easily and slowly filled, so I’d be looking for water temperature changes to guide where the stuff is boiling water and churning it to the surface?

2000pm 12 Mar 2023 Romania: Now presuming this is a ripple from the Turkey event, we can estimate a second ripple arriving at the edges of our plate roughly 26 days after the present one. Possibility of another surface quake at Romania in the next 24 to 48 hrs? Since the present ripple arrived about four days ago, 22 days to next ripple at Azores and Iceland and a little smaller than the first. Small quakes in England, Wales and Scotland in 14 to 16 days? Should confirm this? Colman, Colman: How would you describe this? Orca jumped on the edge of the ice flow and the ice floe is moving up and down or something dropped in a bath of ice slush over water and the slush is moving up and down over the waves in the water.

2010pm 12 Mar 2023 Ireland ? Now, given that the UK has had this many quakes in the last sixty days? I’d be asking our spanners where the fxxking data is?

2015pm 12 Mar 2023 Turkey ? A little UN News story, Like where’s the fxxking Earthquake?

2045pm-2120pm 12 Mar 2023 Ireland found it. Thank you. https://www.insn.ie/ Irish National Seismic Network Since our map is so small and your dots are so big? Can you put a number in the 3s 4s and 5s? There are so many colours do you have to use so few? I like that since the colour blind have trouble with red and green that the shading is so nice. Well done. If you use the black of the circles, you can add boundary colours to give number of earthquakes of this size at this point? ROYGBIV? Orange boundary therefor two earthquakes of M 3.0+ here? Overall though I’d say an A-, If you’d skewed the map to show the narrower distance for the higher latitude distances that would be an A and if the map had the curve that would be an A+. Also too much of the map detail is given to the logos, they should be with the map detail information traditionally with the scale of the map at the bottom left of the map? Why, for speed of use distance cork dublin, look down read left to right. What’s that symbol, that’s next, who wrote this fxxking map, that’s next. Layers? Underlying geology? And spot heights, major hills and our mountain, GeoStations (IRL) black triangle with a little flag banner three or four pixels high on top? (NOI) (WAL) (SCT) (ENG), One day, 7 days, 30 days, 365 days, historical, deadline this month? Please? Good enough that it can be used as a template for small countries? And a duty seismologist to confirm quakes within 30 minutes? Working from where ever, with a mobile phone warning alarm to get him/her back from their study room, tv or coffee machine. And those might be major faults for Ireland, however in world terms they’re only minor fault lines. Oh, and click on earthquake to open a large box, off map to show earthquake details, where the seismic stations seismometer boxes are now? And a quick print button for the data page to printer? Why? Because some people don’t know there’s a button from the web browser and you might have the printed page have a nice time stamp on it and a changing watermark accross the map? And the GBR might appreciate you putting the fxxking border on the map? And then you can start on the Europe map? For 01 September? And then the world map, for the end of 2023, please? Oh, and the British version while it looks clunky, zooms in nicely, if you can do that too, please? Yes, updated bathymetry too. Data usage cited: doi 10.7914/SN/EI.

This is cool, you can see a car driving or someone walking around nearby at 15Hz. 0815am and 1630pm ? Note: Since we have met stations at airports, you could have confirmatory seismometers there? I know the aircraft give dodgy readings, when they land, so the airport ones would be SZMO-IRL-EICK for Cork? So this would be SZMO-IRL-TIP, I presume this is Tipperary? They all have I at the start. Very Poor standardisation system. How do you know about these Colman? Colditz castle WW2 the Germans used them for detecting tunnellers. How would you do this Colman? Well, I’m lazy, so I’d give the job to three old folks homes, some of them sleep at various different times and if it’s a good home, they allow night tv watchers, I’d put a little sound alarm beside the tv, so they call the duty seismologist. A bonus for the first phone call, a smart old folks home would design an automatic call system so they win the prize every time. Anyone like to know if a strange car is calling to a strange house? If you use an arduino with a solar panel and a telephone card as used for river depth gauges, it can tell a sudden pressure change when a car passes by. The Arduino river flow module is € 1.04 + shipping from AliExpress the air pressure sensor is €1.74. The vibration sensor is €0.55, the costs are related to popularity. Colman

2300pm-2330 12 Mar 2023 Iceland: What does this look like to you? Lava flowing, cools pressure increases again, lava flows, lava cools. This looks periodic? In liquid terms it looks like pressure waves or ripples at origin of pressure? Now, looking at it backwards, it looks like the edge of the plate flapping up and down over the liquid magma making the liquid spurt up a blow hole? Why? Because the end of a flag flaps more than the flag at the flag pole, less energy is needed to move the weight of fabric. In this case, the distribution of forces from the origin, Turkey is over a 2 dimensional spherical space, get a mathematician to have a look? It’s similar to light propagation in a 3 dimensional spherical space. In liquid terms it would be pour water into a triangular tray from a corner and what rate, speed, depth, volume per cm width, does it arrive at a point on the tray a certain distance from the origin corner? In a 3D spherical system it’s called flux or lux for electromagnetics and light, what is it in a 2D spherical system? In forces in 2D linear systems it’s called flexion? In one dimension in forces its called traction. The periodicity of the flexion seems to be 14 or 15 hours? with a smaller flexion at 7/7.5 hours, next flexion at approximately 2am UTC ?? Do you need an AI to see that stuff? Well, it helps in the bigger events? “And then it runs to mamma.” It’s a Hunt for Red October joke. Colman AI just means crunching numbers based on previous experience, if it’s an unknown which looks closest to a plane landing, it calls it a plane landing. If it doesn’t know what a plane is, it calls it? It should say? Unknown seismic event? It’s where UFO came from Unknown flying object. As in “yoU should look into this?”

0015pm 13 Mar 2023 Italy, Stromboli seems to have cooled a little, so here’s Mount Etna. Now if I was an enthusiastic little spanner, I’d have processed the webcam footage before transmission with the addition of the outline of the volcano showing the silhouette and maybe a little arrow pointing to the current lava flow saying, yes, we’ve seen it and have noted it. You capture the frame as received and confirm it’s similar to the last frame, that the camera hasn’t moved, and then add the required pixels to their places and then add the frame to the database holding the video sequence. If you’re a really enthusiastic beaver you place the information pixels for the frames in the data first and then superimpose the frame data from the camera, this reduces the waiting time, and you add +1 to the frame length in the video to the database information. And a copy of the raw data to your own database. That’s similar to how they put the banner in. Though the banner sizes are stuck with the nice font and font size, and so the time stamp is covered by: What’s EMOT? Oh, we’re the people contracted to put the data banner on the frames. Colman Oh, no, it’s another standardisation mess up, Energy – Energia, thermal camera E-MOT Montangnola. Thank you to Volcano Discovery for explaining that. Colman

And it looks like another standardisation mess up as the others are E for Etna and these are S for Stromboli and only 3 characters, Potential Eurpoean standardisation?

0100am-0120am 13 Mar 2023 Indonesia Merapi Volcano Volcano Discovery Merapi volcano (Java, Indonesia): large hot avalanches continue Sun, 12 Mar 2023, 18:43 18:43 PM | BY: MARTIN WebCamTaxi Mount Merapi Volcano Live WebCam The picture quality on my 32 inch flatscreen is excellent. Why do they have this? Well, the photos of the boiling mud going down the hillsides in the last few years disturbed a few people and a few selected arses got a kicking. Colman How would you improve this? A button to launch the page into a framed individual screen which could be sized and moved to a corner of the screen so that an event might draw the eye and you might have a button to bring it immediately to full screen, with a button for a multiple screenshots to clipboard and another for video recording of the event. If you were really shiny, and had the data space, you could record on a five minute loop and start the video from 1 minute before your button was clicked, for larger data collectors and news services, the 24hrUTC of the video might be available for download for a small fee? Naturally, data collections, like Iceland’s earthquakes around the Reykjanes peninsula eruption suitably edited by time and location, full Iceland map, zoom to local area map, zoom to actual footage wideshot, and here’s the hot fxxking lave shot, might similarly be a nice earner for the Icelandic Met office? As a collaborative project of course. Who’d have suitable maps, photos and videos for that? Would the Universities buy those? News sites? Just a thought? Oh, the nice people at NASA might have the FIRMS pictures too? Colman

0130am 13 Mar 2023 Papua? These new bloomers too?

0200am 13 Mar 2023 Mount Merapi Volcano, Indonesia, Yes, those are cities. Special is fxxking right.

0205am-0215am 13 Mar 2023 Iceland you sure there’s still ice on that vent? It looks rather warm on the NASA FIRMS Sat photos? Warmer than the lake beside it? If I was a cautious bunny I’d be on the old vent at 40km NW, an adventurous bunny on the old vent 10km NW and a policerobot at the Campground Fjalladyrd/Mödrudalur, 29 km NNE, and I’d avoid physically checking the river depth monitor 10km NE for a few days.

0230am-0320am 13 Mar 2023 Iceland 33m/s = 120 kmph, Windchill calculation, please? Vehicles which are sensitive to wind? Really? And exposed skin sticks to metal at what temperature? And your nose might be covered by a thick scarf? And some protective glasses too? Like a ski helmet? And a full thermal bodysuit? And nice alpine boots? And matching mittens, on strings? Note: This is a “yellow” warning. Oh, orange is a little dangerous. And red? Well, that’s what the bottle of whiskey in the book shelf is for. 0245am Now, I was sitting here wondering why no earthquakes, so I looked at the weather and a large airmass with lots of moisture was over the area north of Iceland and has just moved off, and another seems to be forecast for Tue night and another Wed morning at about 3am – 8am though much smaller airmasses, with moisture i.e. rain or snow they’re heavier, yes, they’re low pressure systems, though the Newtons per m2 exerted on the ground, air pressure is the same horizontally, the mass on the weighing scales changes. It’s why the jewellers and apothecaries used balances rather than springs. On balances, the mass of air from above is the same on both cups on a spring weighing scales the weight changes. Have a look at the zero on your weighing scales changing with the air pressure and humidity, the BME680 temperature, pressure and humidity sensor now costs 24 euros at robotshop.com, so I’m going to have another look then. A nice person might design a Python module to calculate the formulae with respect to the persons altitude compared to standard atmospheric models, though for proper scientific measurements you need data all the way to orbit. High-Altitude Balloon-Based Sensor System Design and Implementation MPDI open access journals. That’s why they’re €25 each. On a coastline, for 365 days, that’s 18,980 euros a year and that’s just the sensors. 0320am Iceland M 1.0 that’s the pressure coming off and the vent closing slightly. Colman

0330am-0510am 13 Mar 2023 Indonesia, this surprised me a little as the HD webcam is shaking from side to side? Why is the ash white? Well, depending on the chemical composition of the ejecta and it’s temperature, there is a good chance that those are the anhydrous colours and with the addition of moisture such as the clouds presently passing over the volcano, cooling the chemicals to an extent where H2O can be absorbed by the chemicals, the colour changes showing it’s composition as chemical colours we are more familiar with become apparent. At present it’s reflecting all colours, the colours we normally see are those not absorbed by the hydrated forms of the chemicals. Example? Copper sulphate, anhydrous, grey and hydrated blue. and then it washes down the side of the mountain because it’s water soluble, normally leaving the green Copper Oxide as the normally visible chemical, sometimes light coloured silicas (sand) and other darker chemicals sometimes black Silver oxide contribute the tone of the colours, the apparent size (sometimes, the 3D distance seen with parallax by the human eye) of the surface particles, grains, pebbles and rocks and their shadows, then contribute to the apparent texture of the surface visible to the human eye or to the camera system. 0352am the lines under the camera have just gone haywire. 0354am they’ve returned to their normal activity since I’ve been looking. 0356am No, now it’s actually showing a flat line? If you look closely you can see the mud continuing to slide down the mountain, which has just started a couple of minutes ago to my eyes? I’m looking at the bottom right hand side, what looks like a little lake getting bigger. 0402am there’s another little quake going accross the bottom of the camera. 0404am now, the camera is shaking from the arrival of the previous quake, however here’s an even bigger one at the seismometer, if you’re a good little geographer you can calculate the distance seismograph to camera. The camera calms between the earthquakes arriving at it’s position, that’s not the fxxking wind. 0410 am The mud is now running down the left hand side and forming ripples similar to waves going over rocks on a canoe run, there were fewer earlier and I thought they were static and larger areas on the left are now covered. You might consider it as similar to a gold separator sliding the gravel left and right and it jumps the larger particles over the filter. 0414am there’s another little quake going accross the screen. Why does the shaking look so bad? Well, it’s a question of parallax, the centre doesn’t move so bad, it’s the angular change at distance from the centre of the camera, while the effect is slightly hypnotic looking at the horizon up and to the right, it’s easier if you look at the centre at the mud flows. 0421am I make it about 50 seconds quake to shaking, now while p waves are listed as having speeds of 1 – 6 – 14 km per second depending, I might suggest that since the distance of mountain to ocean is 60km, either the seismometer is 300 km (6kmps) or someone seriously need to update the fxxking way this stuff is measured to suit the poor bollix looking at the bastarding thing? Is that what happened to the poor bastards who died at Mount St Helens? 0450am Why do you say that Colman? Well, if the car door is shaking that much, do you risk putting your hand in the door handle to open the car door? No car door? Automatic opening by remote push button? Convertible? Remote engine start on door opening? Automatic gear change on a push lever? Hinged drivers wheel with auto compensators, hydraulic, wide accelerator pedal. What about the brake pedal? Well, I’ll use that when the fxxking shaking has stopped, thank you very much. Is this how automatic cars were invented for seismically active areas? What might have happened? Accident investigator? Earthquake simulator, please? There’s one in a science museum in San Francisco to teach the kiddys why daddy and mommy don’t like earthquakes. Now play the sequence of earthquakes before the main eruption and see if the fxxker questioning my report can stand afterwards, and bring him a bucket to wash his hole with in the toilets after he’s shat himself. Oh, and I have no problem cleaning the puke up off the floor myself. Again. Can you make the spare clothes a nice overalls please, in fact a pair of denim dungarees? And an “Ah, love, Earthquakes” t-shirt? Colman

0520am 13 Mar 2023 Mount Merapi Volcano Indonesia, I went back for another look and the viewing spot seems to be from East to West? The mud slide down the left side of picture looks like covering the roadway just now. And there’s a little fire indicator on top of the bigger one. Mount Merbabu 3,145 m . And no, I wouldn’t be flying over that with a widdle helicompter either, a nice fast jet 10,000 and stills for that? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ultras_of_the_Malay_Archipelago Really? You so silly? The hiking advertisements for this National park and mountain walks are quite cool. Volcano Discovery Mount Merbabu – Current statusnormal or dormant (1 out of 5) Is someone having a bar-b-que? I smell burning? No, it’s like rotten eggs? Copernicus??

0535am 13 March 2023 Copernicus and the EFFIS system, no fire top of Mount Merbabu and the viewing spot seems to be West to East? The webcam map says SW to NW ??? Why do you question that? Well, I would have moved my shiny behind and my gear? And the web developer might not have updated the location data yet? Colman

0600am 13 Mar 2023 Mount Merapi Volcano Indonesia, now either the little bush in front of the camera is growing really fast or that mud is continuing down the mountainside, here’s the fullscreen screenshot at 1920×1080. Western Indonesia Time – Time zone in Jakarta, Indonesia (GMT+7) Monday, 13 March 2023, 12:57

0605am-0630am 13 Mar 2023 EFFIS Mount Merapi Volcano Indonesia, I think this is the one I’d show the boss. Colman Yes, I’d think about changing the purple colour of human settlement and the purple colour of fires within the last six hours too? And the Fires last 24 hrs and Burnt areas last one day too? ROYGBIV ? Different shades of colours? I know militaries teach only eight colours, perhaps, Red, Light Red and Dark Red? Since the boundary is already dark red? And I added the water features, which are fxxking blue too? Oh, no one sees this. No. No one uses this, it’s a mass of beautiful data in a pile of shit interface. Now, arses off seats when the boss comes in? Why? Because bottling you when you are sitting is bad policy. That’s why soldiers stand during orders and the boss sits. Colman

0640am 13 Mar 2023 Some topological data for here too, please? And for Papua New Guinea? The shaken wet soil floats over the seawater etc. Danger of sinking villages due to soil liquification due to earthquakes etc. Why? Because climbing the fxxking mountainside in the mud and rain and mosquitos to place seismometers and solar powered web cameras is fxxking easier with a fxxking map which shows the fxxking contours. And nice blue UN hats too, in mountaineering style with nice air vents, because it’s hot, in case of bombes, volcanically thrown lumps of lava.

0700am 13 Mar 2023 Indonesia, you might ask if some of the raids in villages either sides of the borders were for pigs and women? At the local level of civilisation, Ireland had cattle and conquest raids and slave raiding. The American Yahi had similar, though sometimes it was a custom after the agreement of the mother of the bride was sought. Some local village elders might have asked the government for help and a request to military gets some city lad who doesn’t understand country practices and goes over the borders pear shaped. A little education about borderlines and customs and practices of larger areas and old Irish travellers practices, like barn dances, boxing tournaments and horse trading meetings and some of the problems might smooth themselves out? In some cases it’s finding a mate from the same religion and that’s over border business again, unless you follow the old Irish practice of dances at the cross roads at the boundary of the parishes, at the country boundaries? A weaponless customs area trading post perhaps? It’s sort of what the area near Goa and Molucca should have been for the Portuguese, except they wouldn’t trust their own safety without guns. Since in both cases the local pirates didn’t answer to the local Muslim leadership either. Both Koreas are testing the same idea in their DMZ at present.

0715am-0740am 13 Mar 2023 Mount Merapi Volcano Indonesia, the heat off the volcano is now, combined with the heat of the day, making it’s own weather, the air heated and rising above the volcano is drawing air from the surrounding area and as it rises it cools and clouds are forming. The rising air might create electrical charges and lightening might be a possibility later tonight as the air cools further as night falls?? What’s the indicator? Well, the clouds are swirling clockwise around the front of the camera, it’s a possible indicator of Coriolis action? A small air column vortex over the volcano is now possible? Thermals (journeynorth.org) I saw a bird practicing on the thermal in front of the camera a while ago. Thermally generated CumuloNimbus possible? I’d look at fire generated clouds too? A flammagenitus cloud (wiki) , also known as a flammagenitus, pyrocumulus cloud, or fire cloud, is a dense cumuliform cloud associated with fire or volcanic eruptions. The latest research on fire generated clouds from European wildfires might be useful? Possibly a pyrocumulonimbus cloud, though you might like a new name for the cloud from heated mud? Heated mud – Latin – calefacta luto CalefactaLutoCumulus and CalefactaLutoNimbus? And it is getting windier, the leaves on the bushes in front of the camera are now shaking much more vigorously. 0730am It’s a disk shaped formation with localisation, there’s a shadow below the cloud layer in a circular shape half way up the mountainside.

0745am 13 Mar 2023 NASA, Oh, NASA and ESA, ESA, any chance you can swing the ISS camera a little for a look over Merapi in an hour since you’re passing over Indonesia anyway? The live video is always nice, and a few astronaut closeups of the building clouds over the Mount Merapi Volcano too? If one of them has a few spare minutes? And there’s a few volcanoes over in Papua too? If you’ve an Infrared filter, you might catch a view through the cloud cover too? Pretty, please, with sugar on top? There will be cake? Colman 0750am the seismograph under the camera is going haywire again. Yes, a hay day was when you got paid, not funny.

0800am 13 Mar 2023 Windy.com Mount Marapi Volcano, Indonesia The local weather forecast might be a little off the AIs experience for the next day or two? Colman Ventusky.com Mount Marapi Volcano Radar you might look for a change in this in the next few hours? Local moisture accumulation over the mountain?

0825am 13 Mar 2023 Any chance EFFIS can add a layer that says, “Covered in Boiling Mud”? Just asking? Why? Because in 2001 I saw a nice infrared of Viragunga Volcano in Democratic Republic of Congo, with nice colours showing the temperatures at various heights around the volcano, so I know that while the really hot parts are best for determining the location of fires, that a little extra manipulation of the data can give the areas covered by 100 degree Centigrade Mud. Since the purple areas are places where people lived and all that? You know, the living breathing kind, who for some reason, react badly to having their skin boiled off. Colman 0830am, I just felt like having a little cry, so I went out doors for some cold air, it calms the nerves, the cold air tells you that water on your face is bad at cold temperatures, so have a nice cold fan in the corner near the screen with the casualty figures, a refrigerator with cold drinks works too. You rub the cold drink can over your cheeks. It’s where the most sensitive temperature nerves in the human body are. Colman

0855am 13 Mar 2023 Mount Merapi Volcano Indonesia, the livecam now shows the daily moist air travelling in front of the volcano, at the base you can see the steam coming off the jungle, it’s no longer hot invisible water vapour and with the humidity in the air, it shows now as rising steam clouds. What looks like darkness above is actually blue sky seen through loads of moisture. Earlier, about thirty minutes ago, what looked like lava on the mountainside was the days light from above the clouds absorbed by the clouds except for the red, which was reflected off the largely anhydrous white dusty mud, similar to what happens in a sunrise or a sunset. Why? Because the moisture is falling as rain and boiling again at lower altitude or being seen as the fog and drizzle seen here in the photo and the remaining air above the mountain is warm humid, clear air, probably causing Clear Air Turbulence down wind.

0900am-0925am 13 Mar 2023 1600hrs Live Cam – local time first flash of lightening? Colman Also 0903 there are shades of green under the clouds? I’d be asking what else was boiling off the mud? Causes for green clouds? Ozone is one possibility? What does it mean if the sky is turning green?  Google ‘Green Clouds causes’? “Water/ice particles in storm clouds with substantial depth and water content will primarily scatter blue light. When the reddish light scattered by the atmosphere illuminates the blue water/ice droplets in the cloud, they will appear to glow green.” Iowa weather could use a fxxking spell checker. https://iowaweather.com/what-does-a-green-sky-mean/#:~:text=What%20does%20it%20mean%20if,will%20appear%20to%20glow%20green. “When the reddish light scatted by the atmosphere” Really? The updrafts and downdrafts can sometimes cause large hailstone formation, it’s particularly often photographed in Australia since they have photographic cameras. 0918am why Ozone? Well sometimes large amounts of available energy splits the available water and the oxygen in the mud catches a new ion and the hydrogen rises and catches other oxygen in the air, leaving a free Oxygen radical which catches an N2 or an O2 forming N2O or O3. With more H2O from the atmosphere, this can become H2NO3 or acid rain. Though the gaseous Nitrous oxides are generally brown in colour.

1010am 13 Mar 2023 Yes, there is a thunderstorm arriving from the South, to the East of the volcano, and what are the conditions for twisters also called, tornadoes, forming? one sixth from right in clouds? A differing upper atmosphere wind combined with??? Circular rotational velocity and a highly water saturated atmosphere? Watching, the air around it cleared of cloud, and it spun nicely and then the base seemed to catch in the jungle and it elongated and fell apart. 1018am there’s another trying to form in the same spot, just now. At the point where the air rises quickly at the hillside.

1020am 13 Mar 2023 And the sky goes green – Twister the movie. Aw, the camera is now thirty minutes ago. Boo, hoo, hoo.

1000am 14 Mar 2023 ESCM M 4.1 – MADEIRA ISLANDS, PORTUGAL REGION – 2023-03-14 04:27:19 UTC

1005am 14 Mar 2023 Canary and Madeira Islands Spain. An M 4.1 and a pair of M 2.0+ You might check for a little gas puff in the webcams? And the NOTAMs?

1020am 14 Mar 2023 Mount Etna Volcano, Italy, Skyline Webcam Live Vulcano – Gran Cratere della Fossa Live cam I like the little RED circle LIVE symbol bottom left. You can see the nights moisture boiling off the warm lava on top of the lip of the caldera in grey colour below the seagull. The seagull is near, the caldera is far away. A little alert status symbol added might be nice too? Top Left perhaps? Reading left to right, top to bottom. Colman

1040am 14 Mar 2023 Mount Merapi Volcano, Indonesia webcam is clouded, it is showing current seismic events.

1045am 14 Mar 2023 Live beaches.com Hawaii Waikiki Beach, USA The beach is fun. Beautiful swimming. The surf is quite small normally and suitable for beginners. I was looking for Volcano webcams.

1045am-1105am 14 Mar 2023 WebCamTaxi.com Hawaii, there’s a volcano webcam here. WebCamTaxi.com Halema’uma’u Crater Oh, it’s live from USGS: Suggestions? Live, a red circle? though the time is nice, Volcano alert status? Hours of sunlight? Though dusk and dawn are quite long at Hawaii, BMNT etc? Scale as in a map, just saying as a guide to what’s normally on a map? For a camera? Distance of camera to centre of picture or main feature? Direction camera (grid bearing) is pointed in? How do you do it cheaply? A little mirror onto a real compass, cost I’d buy the (Oh, theres a nice new Hiking.ie site), Silva, though the mirrored image would be hard to read, maybe a compass app on a phone or tablet, mirrored to show correctly in the mirror? Attached on a bar from the camera tripod? The phone app, might have the alert status faster than changing the webcam settings? Why? Because the person responsible for the camera might fxxking change it if they hear it on the fxxking radio. Camera app twinned to a remote for the operator? Because they might be at a safe distance? And if the camera is transmitting on the solar/battery powered phone or tablet anyway, you already have a phone or tablet there? They’re expensive. So put it in a metal cage, aluminium, with a large spike in the ground and a chain. The cage protects it from flying lava. Why are there two symbols in the webcam video? Oh, two bright sparks put them in at different places up the food chain. The second one in green is web generated. They used a nice gradient, I hope it’s a warning level?

1120am 14 March 2023 https://www.usgs.gov/products/multimedia-gallery/webcams Eh, to ask a stupid question? Any chance you could sort these by “Country”?, “State”?, What you’re looking at? It’s nice they’re sorted by popularity? Only 20 live cams? All the rest on a photo every 30mins? Really? You know that saving the data isn’t particularly costly these days, the price of hard drives has come right down. NASAs ISS HD LiveCam uses more data space than your entire gallery? Wouldn’t it be nice if your Universities had video with your name on it from foreign big events? Colman

1125am 14 Mar 2023 Why Colman so stupid on internet on webpages? Eventually everyone went back to reading books. The popular mediums of tv and movies showing tit’s and ass and violence. Same for video games and computer apps with all those silly dating and strange drug related advertisements. So Colman’s webpages and other non advertising webpages will become more popular when the public realise some sites are safe, like if there was a nice mediated website with safe websites on them, like Colman’s nice lists.

1300pm 14 Mar 2023 Canaries, Madeira, Spain, how would you improve this? Eh, I’d open the circle when you clicked onit? so you could see what the fxxk was over the quake on the fxxking map? No point in having a map if you can’t see what’s fxxking written on it. With the size of the circle related to how far the effects might be felt, shaking etc. Intensity? M 4.1 at Depth 5km might spill a cup of coffee? At 4:27 in the morning, the locals might have just rolled over in bed. Yes, that is a fxxking problem. Check were there any heart attacks in the night? The human body has it’s lowest point in this diurnal cycle at 3-5am the body temperature is lowest and the majority of natural causes deaths happen around this time? Though most are found at breakfast time. Why because the shock of waking up to the earthquake might have scared tehm an shock drops the body temperature, it pumps blood to the extremities for flight or fight and cools the body sometime when it’s not supposed to. The space blankets and hot tea, for treating shock, is to maintain the blood temperature to prevent this.

1840pm 14 Mar 2023 Nyamuragira Volcano, Democratic Republic of Congo Business Ghana article – Alert-as-threat-of-volcanic-eruption-looms-in-DR-Congo 7 hours ago Nyamuragira (google finds it here) or Nyamulagira (wiki) 28km NNW of Goma, though I didn’t get a photo, it was hidden behind Nyiragongo, which was visible 15 km in the same direction from Goma, where I was stationed. And now we realise why the Irish UN group, took the high road. In the local language, Kinshasa speaks Lingala, Goma speaks Swahili, Translators without borders Though I’d be mentioning the legal language spoken as French and the number of English speakers. And in Goma “Asante sana” is “Thank you”, and the Cork translation is “you’re a fxxkin saint”. Colman

USGS Mount Nyiragongo Eruption Activity Captured by Terra ASTER By Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center JULY 17, 2020

1910pm 14 Mar 2023 Nyamuragira Volcano, Democratic Republic of Congo
USA Smithsonian Institute Last eruption 2023. NASA says the last events of note at teh lava lakes were 08 and 10 March 2023 for these two volcanoes, though Nyamuragira just threw up a NOTAM on a gaseous belsh today, when I was there there was a warning about how the volcano used to belsh up in unusual places and the gases arrived up into the houses through the floors, so few having membrane barriers and many toes got turned skyward. The big church in Goma was open air for that reason, with loads of exits to get the fxxk out in case of a big event.

1930 14 Mar 2023 DRC and while you’re there, can you find out what this is about? This looks industrial? Kisangani? Population fxxkail, industry fxxkail? Someone planning on planting crops in these plantations? The biggest use of trees in the old West in the USA was propping up the roofs of the mines. Unfortunately, when they replanted the areas in the USA, they planted nice conifers, which are nice, for building, and burn so fxxking easily. Oh, they burn the ones, which aren’t suitable for … It’s called a smoke screen in military terms. It’s too far to economically export trees from there, DRC is huge and fuel costs money. Rubber was in very short supply and justified the fuel spent getting it down the river. Until it wasn’t, the new process, which ditched King Leopold’s blindfold was vulcanisation and the loss in revenues to his shareholders. And a nice missive from an Irishman called Casement, he went further and described the happenings in the South American Amazon a few years later and was hung after arriving home to Ireland on a German U-boot.
“And that’s all I have to say about that.” Colman

2205pm 14 Mar 2023 Iceland M 3.0 Oh, look and I just went for a quick check. See Colman’s even more annoying when he’s right. How’s the bathplug holding? Colman

2220pm-2245pm 14 Mar 2023 Smithsonian report 2300hrs UTC Wednsdays should be a good read this week. https://volcano.si.edu/gvp_currenteruptions.cfm Not updated since 24 Feb? Mount Etna not mentioned? https://volcano.si.edu/volcanolist_countries.cfm?country=Italy 21 Feb “posted on 7 February, the Aviation Color Code was lowered to Yellow (the second lowest level om a four-color scale)”, yes, the spelling mistakes are in the page, that’s ( Level 2 of 1,2,3,4 and 3 is the Merapi? ) “In a second VONA, posted on 14 February, the Aviation Color Code was lowered to Green as activity had decreased to background levels.” Because it has nothing to do with the lava still being hot? And sure there are local guides to stop the unwary treading their little toes accross the hillside.

2230pm 14 Mar 2023 Thermal Remote Sensing for Global Volcano Monitoring: Experiences From the MIROVA System Frontiersin.org “It likely represents the only scientifically valid approach for short-term forecasts of a future eruption, or possible changes during an ongoing eruption (Tilling, 2008).” 27 January 2020

2255pm 14 Mar 2023 Smithsonian Mount Erebus Antarctica “Erebus, located on Ross Island, Antarctica, is one of the few volcanoes in the world with a persistent lava lake in its summit crater.” Such funny people. And you people pay these how much? Oh, we don’t, they have an investment fund. Yea, I knew a girl like that once. “Since the Mt. Erebus Volcano Observatory suspended their seismic and infrasonic monitoring program in 2016, the volcano has been primarily monitored by satellite. This report documents activity during 2021.” Really? Not a bitty bitty interested in keeping that puppy? It’s to fxxking cold to maintain the seismometers. And now we know more about Lunar and Martian earthquakes than about an Antarctic volcano. It’ll be dawn in a month, have a wee look then? Eh, there is an overlooking orbit? Well, the geosynchronous ones can’t look in it’s too far South. Well actually it doesn’t go there. What? Yes, it doesn’t. Those have orbits close to the ISS in orbital paths for covering the areas of most interest. Anyone got a Satellite with a suitable Polar orbit for a little look? Why? Because it’ll look pretty in the dark? Like a fxxking radioactive diamond. Oh, it coughs up gold dust. Does it? Really? And a Partridge in a Pear tree. Colman

2330pm 14 Mar 2023 Lanzarote Volcano (1824 Jul 31 – 1824 Oct 24) Smithsonian Mineral collection My local Lanzarote guide book said the event lasted three years as per the diary of the local priest. One sample from the volcanic island. Is it sad that I have more samples than them, and I just picked the rocks out of my fxxking shoes. It’s a pity the Olivine lake didn’t look so green when we visited. Beach full of olivine stone (tripadvisor) No, I didn’t, I got some nice red scoria (Uni of Pittsburg) rocks, we cycled to the lake and then back to the hotel. It was quite sunny, we got a little sunburned.

2340pm 14 Mar 2023 Volcano Discovery Strong mag. 5.2 earthquake – Eastern Mediterranean, 160 km south of Kalamata, Messenia, Peloponnese, Greece, on Tuesday, Mar 14, 2023 at 5:36 pm (GMT +1) – 7 hours ago

2345pm 14 Mar 2023 Italy Disaster Management gives this Law treatise, DISASTER PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT MECHANISMS IN ITALY IFRC Project “Checklist on Law and Disaster Preparedness and Response” IFRC https://www.ifrc.org/ Oh, yes, Colman’s really fxxking annoying.

2355pm 14 Mar 2023 Is it unusual to find a Soviet Echo class submarine near an M 5.4 earthquake? Just asking? Copernix was one of the listed websites from the nice Italy people, via their GeoHack button. http://terremoti.ingv.it/event/34365991

0005am-0020am 15 Mar 2023 USGS M 5.4 – 101 km SW of Kýthira, Greece 2023-03-14 16:36:02 (UTC) 35.548°N 22.148°E 28.8 km depth
It’s a wee slide, tensor reading East-West. Nodal Planes
Plane Strike Dip Rake
NP1 283° 37° 101°
NP2 90° 54° 82° Which means: I think?
Europe moved towards 283° or almost due West and
Africa moved towards 90° due East and I presume they’re grid bearings and not magnetic bearings. Why? Well, the Turkey earthquake kicked the European Plate and it just jumped. Yes, I’d be watching the Italian volcanoes too. Through a very large and faraway telescope, with a nice cup of tea and 10 days of water in 2 litre plastic bottles. (Winter, 3 litres per day? 30 litres per person?) Italy? It’s winter, so is filling the bath out of the question or is your plumbing up to this? How’s the stock of bottled water for tourists? It in warehouses? Why? Because quite a lot just went to Turkey?

0030am 15 Mar 2023 EMSC Europe Let’s watch this fill up? Depth 10km? Did someone run to mamma? USGS says 28.8km depth?

0035am 15 Mar 2023 IRIS says Depth 29km

0040am 15 Mar 2023 EMSC Greece last 24 hrs, the 5.4 is the big one, 2.9 and other smaller 2.0+s

2023_03_15 Mount Etna Volcano, Italy this morning.

0100am 15 Mar 2023 Stromboli was a little warm earlier yesterday morning and it’s classed as normal now since we checked it as normal?

0100am-0120am 15 Mar 2023 Eh, EFFIS and those Copernicus people? Volcano, “no county” as fire(s), No? Just an idiot Paddy asking, I’ve a cousin living in Italy. Colman Oh, and why didn’t it move when the last wave passed, if this is a result of the wave which caused the Romania earthquakes? Well, it was colder the plate has warmed up a little in the spring sunshine and expanded, meeting the African plate and there was a little more traction between the two plates, which caused the jump to be measured, if I was a measuring man, I’d be measuring distances between visible mountain tops and coastal trigonometric points? With lasers and other 1970s tech stuff. Though what would an idiot Paddy know about this sxxt. The observatory looking at the Aoelian sea is down the fxxking hill and looking in the water, “the term which comes to mind is contemplating their own navel.” Colman Aeolians (wiki) ‘it actually comes from Greek term aiolos (αίολος) meaning “quickly moving” ‘, oh, as in “the quick and the dead”? Colman

0135am 15 Mar 2023 INGV Mount Etna Volcano Cams ThermCam and WebCam They’re stills updated when you ask for the next by clicking refresh.

0200am 15 Mar 2023 INGV This is like seeing a request for funding and a crying intern.

0205am 15 Mar 2023 Oh, look there’s a site called https://worldcam.eu/ Strangely I expected Ireland to be between Iceland and the Isle of Man in the Is’ The list of Italian cameras is quite extensive. I thought that the page numbers were for the entire list and Page 66 of the “I”s finishes with Italy: Zogno. WorldCam.eu Republic of Ireland The Ha’penny bridge courtesy of Farson Digital Water Cams? It’s a 30 second advertisement and well worth it.

0230am 15 Mar 2023 Mount Etna Volcano, Italy. You sure it’s supposed to look like that? Why? Because it didn’t look like that half an hour ago? You might check with your fxxking AI?

0240am-0305am 15 Mar 2023 An old hand for the tough corner.
Greece University of Athens Earthquakes
43 Earthquakes listed for the last 24 hours.
At last a decent website belonging to an EU member showing good data structuring. And I even like ESRI map. Can I have one of those please? Colman Oh, you want a money shot? http://www.geophysics.geol.uoa.gr/stations/gmaps3/leaf_significant.php?mapmode=mech&lng=en&year=2023 Significant earthquakes this year, 2023. And I’m forgiving them for not having yesterdays M 5.4 in the the beach volleyball court below here yet, they obviously do their own math. Bit busy 09th Jan wasn’t it, in fact all the way to the 15th Jan. “Up and down like the Assyrian empire he was.” It’s a Monty Python joke. Colman

1815pm-1835pm 15 Mar 2023 Iceland, the periodicity of events seems to have become shorter the available energy closer to the plate edge means faster shorter vibrations, the end of a flag waving, showing this fluctuation from the flag pole is ending, however since the weather, which was North of Iceland pressing on the lava chamber there, now has the moist air moving off to the East, I’d say a quiet evening and night. Next big change from this pattern may be if moist air sits over the area to the South West pressing on that lava chamber. Unknown, since the moist air is also moving over the South of Iceland in 18-24 hrs, is there a lava chamber there associated with the southern island which formed a few years ago?

2120pm-2145pm 15 Mar 2023 Human influence on growing-period frosts like in early April 2021 in central France https://doi.org/10.5194/nhess-23-1045-2023 While the human influence is quite obvious, the main contributor to the frosts which are more likely in future is the effects of boundary layer fluid dynamics, increased energy available at the equator and darkness at the North Pole creates an energy transition curve which has normally been relatively stable to our limited experience. The Polar air masses have tended to be in the variously shaped waves seen around the North Pole during the year. The high state of change in our Climate is allowing these stable traditionally called laminar flows to become turbulent flows and the movements of unpredicted polar airmasses is now happening. Boundary layer dynamics where a cold fluid moving into a warm fluid is quite an unusual event to describe, traditionally it’s been the bubbles boiling off a pot of water which is used as a description of the boundary layer dynamics, waves crashing onto a beach similarly. While the French and Europeans would be more concerned by the cold masses arriving, the Northern USA and Canadians are now concerned with the faster transition of warm air over their Great lakes area. The boundaries which we have traditionally known are now of greater width and movements of warm air to areas like Northern Russia, Northern Continental America and to Greenland are going to push cold air out of the Polar regions into latitudes from 45 to 50 degrees North a little more frequently. This effect will only last until the Polar air becomes warmer, the ice melts completely in summer time and the poor fxxking polar bears drown, if they don’t make lad on the continents for Summer. Now, while The Day after Tomorrow (movie_2004) painted a rosy picture of a nice Ice Age to cure our ills, yes, this is the best hoped for scenario, that the Earth cures itself and we Northern folk adapted for cold weather survive, unfortunately as the fxxking temperature is rising so fast and the ocean is rising so fast and there’s no fxxking plankton growing to turn the CO2 into O2 to save our shiny behinds, some serious talking needs to be done. Like Stop fxxking burning fossil fuels or “you” are not going to be living, let alone living in the stone age. And that is NOT hyperbole, that is kill or be killed, it’s Venus if we’re not careful. You got a nice cavern, a potential wife and some oxygen making gear picked out? So Mr Ben Elton and his Stark book might be correct, though he had a shiny, the Earth will fix itself too approach. I’m not that optimistic. And no, I don’t have kids, I wouldn’t give them this problem. If it gets fixed, I might think about it, fifteen or twenty years time with the right serious talking today. Maybe? Colman

2200pm 15 Mar 2023 Asean Earthquake Information system: Can someone ask if this mess is deliberate or if they need help? The page is formatted to full screen, though designed for a computer screen and the tv screens which are cheaper thro the extra info off the edges and there’s no button to full screen it (oh that’s in the members section?). Some nice ideas, this is NOT what a histogram is Why is this the world page? All in all an enthusiastic B-, I’d actually given them a week and see if they can make a B+. Now, if it’s just formatting issues, can someone who does web design read their source code and send them a readable patch or a set of instructions on how to fix this? NASA an intern? ESA, a web designer, Ireland, an enthusiastic secondary school student, a Coder Dojo person perhaps? The Uk doesn’t have people like this, web design being beneath A level students. Colman
